Today my host mom had to work the whole day. So when I got up, she was at work. My siblings were at High School for band rehersal and my host dad was still on his business trip. So I had the whole house for myself. After getting up I got some fruit from the fridge and ate it while watching TV. Then at 1 pm, Alex, whose family is really close to my host family, picked me up to go to Wylie High so I could meet the debate teacher. Alex himself used to be on the debate team until graduating last year and now he‘s really good friends with the debate teacher. But when we arrived at the debate classroom, we had to wait for the teacher for almost an hour. Apparently there was an emergancy teachers meeting. While waiting, Alex showed me the classroom and showed me all the trophies, that the debate team had won, (some of them were his). The classroom was decorated like crazy……
Then the teacher finally made his appearance. He introduced himself as Mr H. When I told him that I‘m from Switzerland, he immediately told me that his last name, which is Hiltbrunner, was a Swiss name. He also metioned to have visited Geneva a few years ago. We continued takling for a while. He told me all about the different sections of his debate class and that there were many tournaments on the weekends. He went on, telling me that the next tournament was on September 7th and that I probably wouldn‘t feel ready to participate in that, but could still come with them and watch some of his students debate. I immediately agreed. He then said that on September 28th there was a tournament at Wylie High and that would be a great opportunity to take part for the first time.
Afterwards Alex and him started talking for a looooong time and later in the car Alex told me that Mr H. was kind of extended family for him. Mr H. was actually really cool and all the students love him. Some say he‘s more of a weird uncle then your teacher XD.
We headed back at about 3:30 pm to Alexes house to pick up his mom, who is like a sister to my host mom. Apparently they have known each other for a really long time and their kids practically grew up together.
So after picking her up, the three of us had lunch at a place called „Firehouse“, which is a restaurant specializing in sandwiches.
After eating we headed to the High School to pick up my host siblings from band rehersal. So Adriana (Alexes mom) drove us home and watched TV until my host mom came back home.
Tuesday is Taco Tuesday in this house, so obviously for dinner we had the most amazing homemade Tacos ever!
