Introduction & first day

Heyy guys, I‘m Sarah (17) from Switzerland and as some of you might know, I‘m about to start the biggest adventure of my life; an exchange year in the US. In Murphy, TX, I‘m going to spend the next 10 month with a new family, new friends, new culture and a new High School.

My year is going to start on the 31st of July. I will be flying to London first, and then from London to New York, where I‘ll be staying for the EF welcome days for 3 days.

So finally the day has come. Today was the day I could finally board the plane and step on American grounds for the first time. But that didn‘t come without any difficulty. We had to get up so early this morning, because my original flight was cancelled, therefore I flew at 7:05 AM already. That means being at the airport at 5 AM and suffering from a worse jetlag than planned. But never the less, my whole family came to say goodbye 🙂

At first I didn‘t know any other exchange students at the airport, but then I recognized a girl that I had met before. Thus we started talking and spent the whole flight together. I also met three other girls that made time fly by faster while waiting for the following flight.

When we finally arrived in New York, EF welcomed us and last year’s students very excited for us. They even showed us a traditional dance in the middle of the airport 😉

We had to wait for over an hour at the JFK Airport and when we eventually could get into our bus, everybody was already very tired.

At about 8 PM the bus dropped us off at the Thornwood Academy where we got our keys, ate something and got to know our roommates. My roommates and I only have one problem; the key that EF has for our room doesn‘t work. Now we just always need to let the door open the slightest bit so we won‘t get locked outside the car………
